- Overview
Gorgeous and opulent! This is the first art collection by a rising Japanese-style painter featuring kirikane (cut gold leaf) combined with traditional nihonga. Created by an up-and-coming artist who also teaches kirikane techniques at their alma mater, Tokyo University of the Arts, this volume marks their debut collection.
Kirikane is a decorative technique in which gold leaf is cut into fine lines or geometric shapes and then applied to create intricate patterns and designs. It flourished alongside the spread of Buddhism during the Heian and Kamakura periods.
In addition to 61 dazzling works that fuse kirikane with nihonga, the book offers an in-depth introduction to the history and techniques of kirikane. It also includes essays such as a dialogue with Taeko Yamazaki, director of the Yamatane Museum of Art.
Awards: 57th Book Design & Binding Competition — Japan Federation of Printing Industries Chairman’s Award (Printing & Bookbinding Technology Award) / 65th National Catalog Exhibition — Encouragement Award, Catalog Division.
